Val Allen Smith, III represents the third generation of his family's building business. His grandfather, the original Val Allen Smith, started the Vasco trade name for the boilers he built in the early 1900s, the Vasco Boilers. He then started the V.A. Smith Company in the 1930s, which, subsequently, was family owned and operated for over 85 years, representing traditional family values throughout that time.

After Allen graduated from college, he became a partner in condominium conversions in the city of Chicago. He put into this partnership the construction management skills and techniques he had learned from his father. During this time, Allen invested his time and energy in seven buildings that were extensively remodeled and marketed to the growing population of young professionals looking to get into the up and coming home ownership market.

After those projects were completed, Allen began the company of Vasco Builders, which is, today, synonymous with quality workmanship, attention to detail, and satisfied customers, defining decades of family tradition in the building trades.

Since 1982, Vasco Builders has been remodeling and building new homes and additions with excellent craftsmanship and style and state of the art quality construction.

Vasco has completed more than 700 room additions as well as over 30 new homes. We have the experience and knowledge to build any custom project needed.

A third generation builder and resident of the North Shore his whole life, Allen Smith knows how important it is to maintain the integrity of local neighborhoods. He has been presented with a Preservation Award for his efforts in determining that tearing down and rebuilding economically obsolete homes would be a better fit for the neighborhood.

The architectural designs are well proportioned and compliment the surrounding houses. Vasco knows the fine points of making a home look old with modern conveniences and construction methods. They specialize in fine millwork detailing. The mechanicals and components are new and modern and will not only make living in your home a wonderful experience; it will in turn bring a good economic return on your investment.
